Project Background

Located in Istanbul, Türkiye, Alkan Aydınlatma operates a manufacturing facility equipped with a large rooftop solar PV system. To further optimize solar energy utilization and enhance energy independence, the company partnered with ST Solar to install a SolaX ESS-TRENE 125 kW / 261 kWh all-in-one commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage system.

As the electricity settlement mechanism shifts from monthly to hourly net metering, businesses with rooftop solar installations face new challenges in maximizing their solar energy returns.

Under the revised mechanism, exporting surplus electricity to the grid may provide less economic value than consuming it directly on-site. For Alkan Aydınlatma, the key challenge was to make better use of its solar generation, reduce reliance on grid electricity, and strengthen energy security during potential power disruptions.

SolaX Solution

To address these challenges, ST Solar installed one SolaX ESS-TRENE system, delivering 125 kW of rated power and 261 kWh of battery storage capacity.

The system integrates battery storage, a Power Conversion System (PCS), and intelligent energy management into a compact, all-in-one solution.

By storing surplus electricity generated by the rooftop solar system, ESS-TRENE enables the factory to use more of its self-generated clean energy instead of exporting it directly to the grid.

According to the project introduction, the installed system can support approximately two hours of the factory's electricity demand, depending on actual load and operating conditions.

Its scalable design also allows additional units to be deployed as future energy storage needs grow, providing greater flexibility and the potential for extended backup power support.

Project Benefits

By combining its existing rooftop solar installation with SolaX TRENE energy storage, Alkan Aydınlatma gains several important advantages:

  • Maximized Solar Self-Consumption: Store surplus solar electricity for later use instead of exporting it immediately to the grid.

  • Improved Energy Cost Management: Reduce exposure to unfavorable hourly net metering conditions by optimizing on-site energy consumption.

  • Enhanced Energy Resilience: Strengthen backup power capabilities and reduce the impact of potential grid disruptions.

  • Scalable Energy Storage: Expand storage capacity as production requirements and energy demands evolve.

  • Smarter Energy Management: Improve control over energy generation, storage, and consumption through an integrated system.
